2009 Global Day of Prayer Report
Sunday 31st May proved to be a beautiful day in Edinburgh for the Global Day of Prayer. The sun shone brightly and from the top of Blackford Hill the view over the city was clear and far reaching. About 200 people from all Christian backgrounds gathered together with many picnicing there beforehand.
After a time of welcome and introductions the songs of praise began. The sound carried over the hill and was directed to the city below. At 3pm prayers were sent up as different prayer leaders led a section of the 'prayer for the world'. Small group prayer was part of the mix, with prayers being said for local Government and for persecuted Christians around the world. A local Free Church choir sang Psalm 23 and finally all turned and blessed the city to the north, east, south and west. A visiting Pastor from Nairobi prayed 'African style' for our city and nation and then a local pastor sung the Aaronic blessing in Gaelic, linking back to the language the gospel was first brought to our shores.
Altogether it was a great day and appetites have been whetted for what may be in store for the 2010 Global Day!
