We found it interesting to note that the motto on the Edinburgh City Council's coat of arms is “nissi dominus frustra” which means “unless the Lord… in vain” and it comes from Psalm 127 v 1 “Unless the LORD builds the house, its builders labour in vain.”. The next part of the verse says “Unless the LORD watches over the city, the watchmen stand guard in vain.” It is this second part of the verse that we have used as part of our Edinburgh Prayer Watch logo. Above all things our prayer is that the Lord would indeed watch over the city.
Another part of our vision is in the area of “Healing Rooms”, where we are working towards training up people from across the body of Christ to pray for and minister to the sick, in a variety of places (or “healing rooms”) in the city. This is already happening in a number of cities in Scotland and it is very exciting to be a part of what the Lord is doing through this ministry.
We would really value prayer that the Lord would connect us in the right relationships with people across the city. That we would also know the Lord's favour and anointing for this task. We do not propose that we have the “solution”, but our desire is to walk humbly, recognising that much is already being done in the city, but trusting that we can serve and facilitate wherever we are led. Please pray that city of Edinburgh would be greatly impacted for Jesus Christ, that the Kingdom of God would be extended, and that its influence would be felt in all parts of the city.
